For Dan Greaney USA Campaign Director Mieke Marple, one of the earliest believer in the movement, the first step was conquering her own political vertigo.
In the second episode of the Running for President podcast, Dan and co-host Jeff Poliquin welcome Mieke to pull back the curtain on the campaign’s backend strategy.
Mieke candidly admits that when Dan first floated his presidential ambitions over a dinner party, she dismissed it as an entertaining yarn meant to keep the guests amused.
But after Dan’s initial campaign videos pulled in millions of viral views, the reality set in. Recognizing Dan’s unique capability to speak across generational and party lines, she decided to put her formidable artistic and organizational skills behind his vision.
Mieke opens up about her initial anxiety that managing a Republican campaign, albeit a progressive one, might tank her contemporary art career.
Coming from the liberal San Francisco Bay Area, she notes how political labels have become heavily stigmatized and dehumanized by social media. Ultimately, a reality check from a friend in Georgia helped her realize that voters on both sides are deeply frustrated with the status quo, and that everyday Americans are far more aligned on basic needs (like dignity, family security, and fair healthcare) than the media cares to admit.
Dan builds on this theme, clarifying that his platform isn’t about political geometry or staying neatly in a left-versus-right box. While policies like universal healthcare and a Green New Deal are heavily “left-coded” today, Dan argues they represent a practical, problem-solving focus that pre-Reagan and centrist Republicans would have easily recognized.
“Once again a republic, the policies will reflect what the public wants... Let’s take the republic back for the people.”
The conversation pivots sharply to recent Supreme Court decisions, which Dan fiercely critiques as a “lawless” regression toward a corporate-captured Gilded Age. Pointing to the historic 13 federal circuits, Dan lays out his platform’s minimum required response: expanding the Supreme Court to 13 Justices to strip away oligarchic influence and hand power back to independent congressional commissions.
Dan also introduced a vivid metaphor that is destined to become a core campaign pillar: Trump as a wild bear let out of the zoo.
Dan explains that he doesn’t harbor personal malice toward Donald Trump as much as those who enabled him.
“He’s just Trump,” Dan remarks, comparing his chaotic political presence to a wild bear that wandered into a suburban neighborhood.
Dan’s real anger is reserved for Chief Justice John Roberts and the institutional gatekeepers who opened the zoo gates and let the bear into the schoolyard by obstructing timely legal accountability.
The mission? “Keep the bear at the dump.”
